Future Days

Marble failing to reflect the mystery of the storm outside preferring to dwell on the contour
and the texture of my coffee mug

A bell had rung but I had failed to answer it doors and telephones are in kind the same
intrusion unwanted efforts by an impenetrable world to infiltrate the careful focus of my
insistence

In my mind you are backlit by a brilliant light and every day is summer a diaphanous
swirl of fabric that wraps and folds upon itself with only the coaxing of the slightest breeze

Age merely a matter of simple arithmetic the coincidence is seen in how we synchronize our
lives to flow through time at similar speeds

All these mysteries then converging into science time color pace friction texture
chaos conceptual dreamings that point us backwards to a failure of mechanical advantage

Still we live within a house that allows us space to overlook our flaws sinking into the comfort
of its cool grey walls and wood-stained echoes

Dark beer and home-cooked food all we ever needed was a platform a springboard from
which we might launch the remainder of our lives.
